YWA's Kick-off to Clubs

This year, as we eagerly kicked off our clubs which is on Tuesday and Thursday at 11:10-11:30am each week. We have placed a strong emphasis on making them truly student-centered. We believe that giving our students the opportunity to take ownership of their extracurricular activities fosters a sense of empowerment and encourages their creativity to flourish. As a result, students themselves took charge and created detailed descriptions for each club:

Board Games & Chess:

When video games get too loud, we play video games without electronics!

LGBTQIA+:

We are here to explore & express our identities, and learn about queer culture, history, & modern struggles. We are also here to build & reinforce the queer community at YWA, so come join us!

Japanese & Anime:

This club meets to watch anime and discuss Japanese culture. We’re currently watching One Piece.

Student Government & Admissions:

Student Government goals include representing the student body, welcoming new teachers to YWA, contributing to a positive environment and culture, communicating via established YWA avenues, and supporting better school lunch experiences for students.

Arts & Crafts:

Arts and Crafts Club is an interdisciplinary club. We will adapt our projects and available supplies based on everyone's interest and the seasons/holidays.

Elementary Schoolers:

In this club, we talk about something different every day. For example, we might play Connect Four or talk about Pokemon! 

Film:

Film club is cool because you get to watch movies, talk about it, make fun of it sometimes, and then select a new movie.

Music Appreciation:

The Music Appreciation Club is our time to appreciate music in our own way. The other goal is to discuss, play, and appreciate music with others.

Video Games:

In the video game club we are creating a safe space to talk about, play, and work on video games. We also play child appropriate games in this fun, safe, environment. 

Robotics:

We are the robotics club. We will learn about robotics through videos and our instructors and then apply this knowledge to a part of a rube goldberg machine which we will assemble at the end of the semester. We will also complete smaller test projects throughout the semester, such as a test for rolling a ball into a paddle to trigger another ball rolling.

Study Hall:

A space to chill, take a break, and have some background noise.
